Melissa Woodcock is driven by a curiosity about art: Why we create and the wonder of observation. Melissa has 15 years of teaching experience in public schools and private art classes as well as an active studio practice in abstract landscapes and animal portraits. Along with a teaching degree from the U of A (2004), she completed a degree in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art and Design (2013).
I am most interested in sharing my love of art for it’s meditative, healing, and energizing abilities that reaches all ages, all abilities. My belief is that art is an embodiment of how we connect to the world around us and allows a unique form of communication of our perceptions. Through creating art we are able to capture the lure of a stunning landscape and reflect on that moment of perfect wonder. The act of painting lets us put aside our routines, cares and concerns to allow a natural flow to take over; I love being a conduit in this process.
