Paint Night: Unleash your inner artist

Here are some tips on prepping your bottle and supplies you will need so you can be ready!

  • First things first, when painting on a glass surface, it is important to make sure the surface is clean, otherwise the enamel paints will not adhere well to the glass. The most efficient way to ensure your surface is clean, is to hand wash it, wipe down with rubbing alcohol, then let air dry for 15 minutes.
  • You will need enamel paint. If you do not have enamel paint, you can use acrylics, but you will NOT be able to bake or wash your bottle. To solidify the paint to the bottle, you need enamel paint. How do you know if you have enamel paint? Check the paint bottle, if it says you have to bake it in the oven, you have the right one!
  • Small paint brushes
  • Pallet
  • Water cup
  • NEVER MIX ENAMEL PAINT WITH WATER! This will weaken their strength and lessen the adhesion to the surface of your glass. The paints are best used straight from the bottle.
  • ENAMEL PAINTS ARE TOUGH TO REMOVE FROM SKIN AND CLOTHING! Since glass paints dry very quickly, you will want to take a few steps in removing them from your skin or clothing.
  • Wipe your hands off on a rag/ paper towel as soon as you notice any spots of enamel paint. Remove any paint that is still wet.
  • Rub vegetable or mineral oil on your hands to loosen paint. Continue to wipe off your hands on a rag as the oil dilutes the paint. Use an abrasive sponge to gently rub tough stains. Be careful not to cause any damage to your skin.
  • Wash your hands with glycerin soap and water. Continue to lather and rinse until all traces of oil are gone.
  • Once finished with painting on your glassware, it is important to bake in the oven before use. This will strengthen and seal the enamel paint and prevent future damage. Remember if you used acrylic paint, you can not do this baking/washing step!
  • Place glassware in unheated oven directly on the rack
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees
  • Bake for 30 minutes, then turn off oven
  • Allow glassware to cool off in oven before removal
  • Once glassware is completely cooled, hand wash with warm soapy water or wash in the dishwasher
