Oak Grove

“Southern Country-Folk that Warms the Heart and Cools the Soul”

Invite your friends to join you and make new friends while you enjoy original and classic Americana tunes delivered by Oak Grove (formerly Pickxen). (You can even Host a private event if you wish.)

The band is made up of Laura on lead vocals and acoustic guitar and ukelele, Michael on lead guitar and harmony vocals and providing a steady platform for all, John on bass.

Having played throughout the Southeast at corporate events, wineries, breweries, festivals and clubs, Oak Grove will deliver their cleverly written and narrated songs that are sweet and easy to listen to; but peel away that veneer and you will find engrossing and bewitching tales in the all-encompassing shadows.

Having mastered the “Concert Sound” for the internet experience we recommend you wear headphones or use high fidelity speakers...if possible mirror to your big screen TV for a live concert feel.  If using external speakers, (Apple TV etc) be sure to go to Audio Preferences in Zoom and select the correct speakers.

Music from Patsy Cline to Mary Chapin Carpenter,  The Replacements to Frank Sinatra, Lucinda Williams to Abba...we promise to take you on a broad musical journey.

We’ll throw in some interesting musical trivia questions and opportunities to win Oak Grove swag.  Grab your favorite beverage, your snack of choice, your best squeeze, and join us for a full evening of Music & Fun!

Reviews:

“ Laura’s voice does remind me of a young Nanci Griffith at times, but at others, Allison Krauss springs to mind, and at least once I thought I could be listening to a young sibling of Emmylou Harris...but all along it was the smoky sultriness of Laura Monk.” Rockin’ Magpie, UK

MUSIC! I am passionate about music and love sharing it with folks of all ages. It all started when my Mother began taking piano lessons while pregnant with me. Music became a part of who I am. I’ve been making music one way or another as far back as I can remember. Taking what I love and making it a career has been glorious. Performing and sharing many genres of music ranging from Pop, Renaissance Festivals, Folk, Americana, KID’S music and Standards has made me a well-rounded musician. I have spent my musical career singing and playing music throughout the Southeast in various formations. Rock/Americana/Folk bands as the lead singer and acoustic guitar player, Children’s Music as a Storyteller and Singer of Songs, and as a Sing A Long song leader in Senior communities and facilities. I am having fun making music and that transfers to those who are listening and participating. Everyone is invited to be a part of the show whether an adult event with added music trivia, a kids event with movement and rhythm or a senior show with voices joining in and people dancing.
