CocuSocial Summer Seafood Gumbo
This event is in partnership with CocuSocial, the leading platform for culinary experiences.
Gumbo is perhaps the most infamous dish stemming from Louisiana-style cooking. It encompasses a melting pot of cultures from West African to French all mixed together and served in a steaming bowl. It's a dish served to the masses, either peasant style or even in high end restaurants. Gumbo is versatile depending on the ingredients you have access to but always comforting, nevertheless.
In this class you will execute a restaurant style Sausage and Seafood Gumbo served over Cheesy Grits. Learn the basics to making a Roux, which is flour browned in butter used to thicken the Gumbo. The remaining process is all about carefully cooking and incorporating the individual ingredients.
Making grits is all about patience and stirring, finishing the pot off with some butter and cheesy goodness. No matter where in the country you call home, anyone can enjoy a NOLA style meal and make it their own. In fact, Chef Michele will be cooking from her Cape Cod kitchen and working with the seafood she knows best from her experience working in restaurants. However, if you aren't a seafood fan you can add vegetables, meats, or poultry instead!
You will receive an email with the equipment and ingredients list. However, the main ingredients required to participate along with the chef include: milk, salt, pepper, butter, stone ground white grits, cheddar cheese, heavy cream, all-purpose flour, onion, bell pepper, celery, sausage, shrimp, scallops, clams, and broth.
Prepare your mis-en-place ahead of the session, grab your favorite drink, and let’s get cooking together!
