Paint Nite: Searing Sunset
The Original Paint Nite: Unleash your inner artist
Social distancing and staying home come with many challenges, one of which is finding entertainment. We scratched our heads, thinking of ways to help and things to do when in quarantine, and landed on virtual events! Our aim is to have all the Yaymaker elements you know and love from the comfort of your home.
These events are presented live through a streaming platform -some for kids and others geared for adults. So, pour a drink, grab a snack, and get creative!
What you need: You can use any supplies you may already have at home, purchase the supplies from Yaymaker through this link (https://shop.yaymaker.com/products/personal-paint-kit) and they will be mailed to you, or purchase your own supplies.
These recommendations are from your Hampton Roads artists:
Paint: You can use ANY kind of ACRYLIC paint in colors red, yellow, blue, black, and white. Liquitex Basics Acrylics and Artist's Loft Acrylics are popular brands and available at many retailers. We will be using Artist's Loft Acrylics for our virtual parties. For most paintings, the average person will only need 1 - 1.5 ounces of white paint, and .5 - 1 ounce of every other color. This means your paint purchase will last for many projects!
Canvas: Canvases can be found online at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann, Walmart, DickBlick.com, a resale store or a local shop near you. We use a 16 x 20 Artist's Loft canvas from Michael's. You can use any size you wish, you can use canvas boards, wood panels, cardboard, or re-paint canvases you already have. Just be sure to give it a coat or two of white paint or acrylic primer before we start if you're repainting over an existing painting!
Brushes: There are LOTS of different brush choices, and every artist has a unique preference. Make sure you get 3 different sizes, most importantly a small baby brush for details! -A larger brush 3/4" to 1" wide, some type of skinny brush to paint details and something in between.
Easel: "Tabletop easels" are available online for $10 and less through Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Target, and DickBlick. An easel is optional, because you can prop your canvas up against something or paint with it flat on the table.
Other supplies you will need:
a cup for water
a paper towel, cloth, or rag
an apron or old piece of clothing you don't mind getting messy
a plastic or reusable tablecloth, trash bag, or newspapers to keep your table clean
Stay tuned to yaymaker.com and/or our Facebook page (Yaymaker Hampton Roads) for the upcoming dates and feel free to reach out at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or painting requests. WE ARE SO EXCITED to connect with you all and keep the creativity flowing during these difficult times!
Kaycee was awesome! She made my experience better than if we where in person!
I love how she took her time and explained everything so well! She made it so much fun by having music and I also loved that she gave us time to finish each step we were on!
