History of Spurrier's
Spurrier's tavern was built in 1771 served as a horse-changing depot until 1835 at the corner of U.S. 1 and Maryland Route 175, where the Holiday Inn Columbia East-Jessup currently stands. George Washington noted stopping at Spurrier's Tavern several times in his day, where he found sustenance in their bar and a substantial American breakfast.
